Cogan Wins Race for Mayor

May 4, 2024

Dan Cogan will continue to serve as Bedford’s mayor after winning today’s election with 60.3 percent (2,448 votes) of the ballots, according to the election results from Tarrant County

Portraying himself as “Bedford’s youngest mayor” and “an energetic leader,” Cogan based his campaign platform on economic development, community participation and family.  He stated during his campaign that he wants to “revitalize” the city by making Bedford a “destination,” along with stepping up “economic development” projects to “transform the city.”

Cogan also emphasized his goal of creating “improved outreach” to residents through “various social media channels, newsletters and citizen surveys.”  He said that during his tenure on the City Council, Bedford had already built a “state and national award-winning communications team” at City Hall.

“This is the city I’m raising my family in,” he said in his campaign website, “and I want to make it the best it can be and secure its future for all our families.”

The runner-up in the three-way race, Jim Griffin, came in with 28.1 percent (864 votes).  Along with his extensive record of community service, Griffin served in previous years as a member of City Council and Bedford Mayor.  He resigned during his third term, in 2019, to run unsuccessfully for the District 92 seat in the Texas House of Representatives and returned in this year’s election in an attempt to retake the seat as mayor.

Eric “Big Juicy” Love was third in the balloting with 10.8 percent (332 votes). As a newcomer, Love described himself in this election as a “business man, not a politician.”
