March 18 “Neglected” and generally obscured from view, three veterans’ memorial plaques have been sitting on the front lawn at City Hall for more than 50 years. However, in an effort spearheaded by Council Member and Navy Veteran Rich Steves, Bedford is planning to relocate the plaques with the construction of a more appropriate Veterans’ Memorial at Harris Ryals Park.
March 12 As development of the Crossroad East retail project and adjacent Gateway Village townhomes moves forward, the City plans to expand the reach of the projects on the old Campus West site, at the northwest corner of Airport Freeway and Industrial Boulevard.
February 28 After years of on-and-off development proposals for Bedford Commons, the City may have found a viable option with Midway Development’s multi-phase, mixed-use pitch. An impressed City Council has requested Midway and the city manager to move forward to the next step of planning. The Bedford Journal Project followed the Council meeting and details Midway’s proposal for the 31-acre site.
February 26 Brown Trail has reopened to traffic after a year of water and sewer line work. However, there is more work coming to Brown Trail, as well as to Bedford Road.
January 30 With Bedford’s Beats and Eats Festival approaching its third year, Mayor Dan Cogan expressed an interest at Tuesday’s City Council meeting in expanding the event starting next year, in 2026. “This is our signature event,” he stated, and suggested that “we should have the goal of growing it more.” He added that “to do that means allocating a little bit more for entertainment that’s going to “bring in a bigger crowd.”
January 23 As Bedford Animal Services and its staff strive to secure adoptions and care for the animals in the shelter, 1,100 just last year, it faces other challenges from operating in a 35-year-old building to running short on basic necessities. In this article, the Bedford Journal Project attempts to throw the spotlight on the need at the shelter for adoptions, fosters, donations and volunteers.
January 15 Now that the holiday season is over and City Council is back in session, it is time to start thinking again about elections. Saturday, May 3, was unanimously (7-0) approved by City Council as the date for Bedford’s 2025 election for Council Places 3 and 5.
