It’s Official!  Mayor Dan Cogan and Council Members Joy Donovan Brandon and Nichelle Dawkins are Sworn In

May 14, 2024

Mayor Dan Cogan wants to be the mayor for all of Bedford’s residents, he said just before being sworn in after his re-election. He emphasized that he wants “to continue moving forward” and “continue setting up our city for financial success.”

While the race for Mayor and City Council Place 1 was decisively determined more than a week ago, on Election Day, the results for the Place 2 Council seat have been a nail-biter until yesterday when the City received the last of the mail-in and absentee votes.  With the final count of 1,945 ballots (50.2 percent), Joy Donovan Brandon “secured the necessary votes to win Place 2,” according to the City’s announcement yesterday, and be sworn in with Mayor Dan Cogan and Council Member Nichelle Dawkins this evening.

With the final count for Place 2, Jeron Liverman secured second place with 1,296 votes and Tycom “Ty” Wright came in third with 637 votes.

Dan Cogan, who won his first full term as mayor May 4th, said during the campaign he primarily wants to “revitalize” the city by making Bedford a “destination,” along with stepping up “economic development” projects to “transform the city.”  He said, “This is the city I’m raising my family in and I want to make it the best it can be and secure its future for all our families.”

During the campaign, Joy Donovan Brandon said her goal is “to keep Bedford’s progress moving forward,” and “to help choose the next city manager.”

Nichelle Dawkins was unopposed in the race for City Council Place 1.
