May 3    It was a cool, crisp Saturday with a bright sunny sky and a moderate wind out of the north.  In other words, it was a perfect day to get out and vote and a fantastic day for City Council incumbents Amy Sabol and Steve Farco who each won re-election with more than 75% of the vote.

April 30    Look Dine-In Cinema is opening a new theater in Bedford this coming month, according to Mayor Dan Cogan as he made his Mornings with the Mayor presentation last Saturday, April 26.  To be located at the same location vacated by Movie Tavern in January, Look announced on its website that they are “excited” to be coming to Bedford with “summer blockbusters like never before.”

April 26    A split vote of 4-3 divided Bedford’s city council Tuesday night over a tattoo parlor.  After months of unanimous votes, four members of the Council – Nichelle Dawkins, Rich Steves, Steve Farco and Mayor Pro Tem Rob Gagliardi – voted to approve a zoning change through a Specific Use Permit (SUP) to allow Virtuoso, a tattoo and body piercing shop, to move into a strip mall storefront at 1745 Airport Freeway, just east of Forest Ridge Drive.  Mayor Dan Cogan and Council Members Amy Sabol and Joy Donovan Brandon voted in opposition to the SUP.

April 7    A suspect in “multiple vehicle burglaries” at the Brownstone Apartments, at 400 Pecan Bend, off Brown Trail, just south of Bedford Road, was arrested last Friday, April 4, according to Bedford Police.  Bedford Police announced that Kelvin Jerome Simon, 20, of Fort Worth, was apprehended at another apartment complex in Fort Worth with the assistance of the Mid-Cities Task Force and the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Unit.

April 4    Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD is reaching out to the community in the wake of a disturbingly violent incident between two students last week at Harwood Junior High School, in Bedford.  In a statement released Wednesday, the District announced it is seeking people in the community to serve on a “Student Safety Task Force.”

April 3    With the new year underway, Bedford’s residents will be voting in about a month for Places 3 and 5 on the City Council. From remaining on the development track with the recently approved Comprehensive Plan to proposing a civil liberties task force, there are four candidates running — two for Place 3 and two running to fill Place 5. The Bedford Journal Project reached out to the candidates and profiles them.
