Bedford and Animal Shelters Nationwide Kick Off Annual “Clear the Shelters” Campaign

August 11, 2024

The annual “Clear the Shelters” event kicked off this week at the Bedford Animal Shelter, the City of Bedford announced in a Facebook posting Tuesday.

“Clear the Shelters” is a month long, nationwide “pet adoption and donation campaign” in its 10th year, according to CleartheShelters.com. The joint initiative with NBCUniversal Local this year, as stated by the website, runs from this past Saturday, August 10 to September 10. Donations will be accepted through September 30.

Last year, having surpassed its one millionth adoption, the campaign involved more than 150 NBC and Telemundo stations and “1,400-plus shelters and rescues located across 49 states and territories, including Puerto Rico and Guam,” according to the website. Last year’s 2023 campaign, according to the website, helped more than “150,000 pets find homes while raising more than $575,000.”

Locally, shelters across the area are participating in the campaign, as shown on the website’s map, including the Bedford Animal Shelter, HSNT Hurst, City of Euless Animal Services, DFW Humane Society, Grapevine Animal Services, Fort Worth Animal Care and Control, Watauga Animal Services, North Richland Hills Animal Services, Richland Hills Animal Services Center and North Texas Australian Shepherd Rescue.
The Bedford Animal Shelter is offering adoptions for $50 during the Clear the Shelters campaign and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00am to 1:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm. For questions, the Shelter can be reached at 817-952-2191 or via email at animal.services@bedfordtx.gov.
