H-E-B is Coming to Bedford

April 22, 2024

“HEB is finally getting an H-E-B!” the City of Bedford announced today. The statement through the city’s News Flash press release said the Texas-based grocery store, which is widely revered by shoppers throughout the state, “will be located at the northwest corner of Cheek-Sparger Road and Rio Grande Boulevard (the road into the Glade Parks development) with a projected opening date sometime in the second half of 2026.”

The News Flash said the details known so far are that the new H-E-B, to be built on land within the jurisdictions of both Bedford and Euless, will be a “normal-sized” store of 119,000 square feet and will “face east, toward Highway 121.” The store “will have a True Texas BBQ” and a pharmacy, each with a drive-thru” the News Flash states. In addition, an H-E-B Fuel Station and car wash will be coming in the future.

The News Flash detailed that “several years ago, after H-E-B purchased the property in 2015, the Cities of Bedford and Euless prepared for this day by finalizing an agreement allowing both the property tax and the sales tax generated by the store to be split between the two cities, since the property falls within both cities. The agreement also outlines each city’s responsibility for matters relating to platting, zoning, infrastructure, building plan review, permits, inspections, law enforcement, fire protection and prevention.”
A meeting has been scheduled between H-E-B, the City of Bedford and the City of Euless to discuss “further details and determine next steps to move this project forward,” the News Flash said, but it did not specify a date.

According to H-E-B’s website, the grocery chain was “founded in 1905 and built on a $60 investment. Now based in San Antonio, H-E-B states on its website that it has annual sales of more than $43 billion and operates “more than 430 stores throughout Texas and Mexico.”

The chain began “as a small family grocery store in the Hill Country town of Kerrville, Texas.” Since then, H-E-B has become “one of the “nation’s largest independently-owned food retailers,” the website states, and is “dedicated to exceptional customer service, low prices, top quality products, and innovative shopping options such as Curbside pickup and Home Delivery.”
