A New Medical Building is Approved for Bedford

Construction for a new medical building in Bedford was approved by the City Council Tuesday night.  In a unanimous vote, the Council approved the site plan of SNS Investors LLC, of Southlake, for the medical office to be located at the southwest corner of Harwood Road and Martin Drive.

The plan proposes a 13,455 square foot, single-story building to be constructed on the undeveloped 2.4-acre lot and includes 54 parking spaces, according to the Council meeting’s agenda.  Included would be a 20-foot-wide landscape perimeter setback, the protection of 14 existing trees and the planting of 61 new trees of various types, plus 91 shrubs.

A zoning amendment also passed by the Council Tuesday night adds “a provision that allows the applicant to request an exemption from the screening requirement between incompatible uses.”  This exemption was approved in this case due to “topography changes” between this and the neighboring property, so “constructing the required screening wall on the commercial property would not serve the intended purpose of the screening wall,” the agenda explains.

It was five years ago, in January of 2019, when a zoning exception for a self-storage proposal for the same property was unanimously denied by the Council.
