Fireworks Attendance was “Off the Charts”
July 10, 2024
In her regular comments at Tuesday’s City Council meeting, City Manager Andrea Roy reported that attendance for last week’s fireworks display was not just another record, but was “off the charts.” Bedford’s 4thFest celebration, she said is “something that has grown much bigger than what was originally anticipated.”
The City’s estimate, according to Communications Director Molly Fox, was between 15,000 and 20,000 people from Bedford and other cities who watched from within and around Generations Park at Boys Ranch.
“What a celebration it was!” exclaimed Mayor Dan Cogan. “I’ve never seen a City event so well attended” and thanked the City and Staff for producing “an amazing show.”
Roy stated that “Staff has been made aware of some of the parking concerns and issues that did happen in the surrounding area” and will have to “make some different arrangements to address this next year.”
She added that “we do have a meeting scheduled with Staff this week to debrief and look at options going forward” because she sees the event “growing even more next year.”
The 4thFest celebration, Roy noted, is experiencing “growing pains,” having become – “and rightly so” – “the place for the 4th of July fireworks on the day of the fourth with some cities around Bedford tapering back and moving their July 4th fireworks onto other days” and “going to drone shows.” She added, though, that “this is a good problem to have.”
