June 20 A second suspect was arrested in connection with the June 6 death of 79-year-old Christina Barsanti, Bedford Police announced today. As detectives continued investigating the incident, they said, they were able to “obtain a clearer image of the vehicle used in committing the crime.” Using the vehicle information, Police reported that they “identified a second person of interest who was found to be connected to the incident as the evidence was processed.”
June 18 Re-elected just a month ago, Bedford’s Mayor Dan Cogan has quit his day job as a teacher to take on the challenges of his volunteer work at City Hall full time. The Bedford Journal Project reached out to ask him why and what he hopes to achieve.
June 12 City Council on Tuesday awarded HCI Commercial the contract, out of nine bids, to renovate the old Airport YMCA building for conversion into the new Senior Center. In a unanimous (7-0) vote, the Council approved $3.28 million for the overall project, with $2.71 million (83%) designated for HCI. The remainder of the funds are planned to be applied toward an architect, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
June 12 With two unanimous (7-0) votes, the City Council has given its final approval for the development of what is provisionally named “Gateway Village.”
June 8 Bedford Police announced today they have arrested Brandon Paramore, 39, of Euless who they have charged with murder in connection with last Thursday’s death of Christine Barsanti, 79, of Bedford.
June 5 The Library is looking for residents to participate in its focus groups to help map its direction for the next three years.
May 31 Piece by piece, the 18.5-acre development, near the northwest corner of North Industrial and Airport Freeway, part of what has been commonly known as “Campus West,” is coming together with the unanimous approval (6-0) Thursday night by the Planning and Zoning Commission for plans for the project’s residential component. The vote approved the preliminary plat presented by the developer, John Dickerson, of Dickerson Development, Inc. / Hank Dickerson & Company.
May 28 Bedford’s City Council unanimously (7-0) voted Tuesday night to authorize the publication of a notice of intention to issue $22,025,000 in certificates of obligation to fund the City’s new Senior Center and remodeling of the fire stations, as well as funding for other capital projects. Pending a two-week notice period, the bond will fund the remodel of the old Airport YMCA building, located at Central and Cummings, into the Senior Center, as stated by the Council meeting’s agenda.
May 15 Plans for a new shopping center for the Crossroad East development were unanimously (7-0) approved by City Council Tuesday evening. Formerly known as “Campus West,” at the northwest corner of North Industrial and Airport Freeway, the plans for the retail center, drafted by Clay Moore Engineering, will cover a 7.5-acre tract of the overall 18.5-acre property, which is owned by the City of Bedford.
May 14 Mayor Dan Cogan wants to be the mayor for all of Bedford’s residents, he said just before being sworn in after his re-election. He emphasized that he wants “to continue moving forward” and “continue setting up our city for financial success.”
May 7 Meadow Park, a large undeveloped property across from the Kroger, at Central Drive and Harwood Road, may soon be going up for sale, according to its owner of 55 years, the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (HEB ISD).
May 4 Dan Cogan will continue to serve as Bedford’s mayor after winning today’s election with 60.1 percent (2,498 votes) of the ballots, according to the election results from Tarrant County.
Portraying himself as “Bedford’s youngest mayor” and “an energetic leader,” Cogan based his campaign platform on economic development, community participation and family. He stated during his campaign that he wants to “revitalize” the city by making Bedford a “destination,” along with stepping up “economic development” projects to “transform the city.”
May 4 In an election nail-biter, Joy Donovan Brandon took the Place 2 seat on the City Council by just several votes to clinch the 50-percent-plus one majority needed to win and avoid a runoff.
She won with 50.1 percent of the vote (1,940 votes), according to the election numbers from Tarrant County, beating Jeron Liverman with 1,296 votes (33.5 percent) and Tycom “Ty” Wright with 636 votes (16.4 percent).

April 24 In a “shift of direction” for the Bedford Commons project, Midway Development Group has been selected by the City of Bedford to continue with the planning of the project.
April 24 Construction for a new medical building in Bedford was approved by the City Council Tuesday night. In a unanimous vote, the Council approved the site plan of SNS Investors LLC, of Southlake, for the medical office to be located at the southwest corner of Harwood Road and Martin Drive.
April 23 “HEB is finally getting an H-E-B!” the City of Bedford announced today. The statement through the city’s News Flash press release said the Texas-based grocery store, which is widely revered by shoppers throughout the state, “will be located at the northwest corner of Cheek-Sparger Road and Rio Grande Boulevard (the road into the Glade Parks development) with a projected opening date sometime in the second half of 2026.”

March 28 Among seven propositions to amend the City Charter, Bedford voters will decide in about a month on a proposal to begin compensating City Council members with a one-dollar-per-month stipend. The stipend would be in addition to the expense reimbursement they already receive.
